Turnout was the same as previous tourney even though some expressed interest but had conflicting schedules. Anyway, congrats to Sheila for coming in first this time round! The assignment of tag team superstars this time was interesting and it brought us out of our usual comfort zone. For myself, I got Hardy Boyz, and Follow-ups have never been my kinda style. Sucked it up, and the deck turned out to work quite well! Deck list can be found HERE. Match 1: Hardy Boyz vs Rated RKO We tested this match up a few times prior to this tournament, and we both knew what to expect. He took out his superstar antics, while I edited my maneuvers. I didn't get a good starting hand so I resorted to Ruckus to refresh my hand. Indeed, it was a better hand as I knew he (as well as most other decks) starts off with Scissors Hold and my starting hand had Punch, Headbutt AND Kick. Thus, the game rather lopsided as I was able to tank his initial Scissors Holds, while increasing my handsize from Filling In The Blanks. My ability also allowed for turn continuation and soon I was hitting in my Follow-ups. One of the mistakes he made was that he reversed my Matt Moonsault with I Can Do Anything I Want and plucked his own fort to 0. Another memorable moment was when I tried to play Transition Hold to connect into an Inverted Body Block but with the luck of top deck, he overturned a Second Solution, the only card that could reverse Transition Hold. Luckily, I could ability and still hit in the protected Inverted Body Block. Afterwhich, I just reversed whatever he threw at me and soon, the game ended with a Front Face Lock (5D) when he only has 4 cards left. 1-0 Match 2: Hardy Boyz vs BWO (Eugene) Similarly, we tested each other's deck prior to the game so we roughly knew what to expect. I was lucky enough to get a good hand so I skipped my Ruckus. My initial Judo Takedown into Flying Forearm to start the fort curve going. On the other hand, I was lucky enough to get the correct reversals for the Cores that he threw at me. I vaguely remembered him having around 18 or so lesser fort than me and he could Desperate me the next turn after I play my maneuver. Coincidentally, I did not have Inertia in my hand. Still, I managed to advert this by hitting in an Indian Deathlock to skip his turn and prevented him from playing it. I followed up with a momentum-ed Poetry In Motion for the win. 2-0 Match 3: Hardy Boyz vs Jerishow I believe my luck totally ran out in this match, that even Eugene who can see my cards know. Even after Ruckus (17 cards in total), I drew a total of 0 Hold reversals. From there, Scissors Hold and Double Wrist Lock opened Jerishow's Fort, and in flew the Means. 4ever: No Mercy just added fuel to the already burning fire as Hardyz stood no chance against them. I couldn't even pull off a single Follow-up as Jerishow had a big hand from the constant use of ability and Ring Psychology: Leg. Late game saw me with 3 cards in hand, and she dropped 1 with Best In The World, and 2 with Do You Understand What I’m Saying To You Right Now? , followed by a Core which I didn't reverse from arsenal. 2-1 Match 4: Hardy Boyz vs BWO (Joshua) After a huge turn the tide from BWO vs BWO, Joshua seemed to have gotten the hang of the deck, or maybe he found a tech that even I didn't realise. Anyway, my luck somehow got back as I got the necessary reversals to stop his first few maneuvers. But this was a tougher nut to crack as I couldn't seem to draw into Antic reversals. It was only after a few rounds of Cores that he started to run out of cards to play. On the other hand, my hand was big through the constant drawing of Filling In The Blanks. I suppose it was a bad hand for Joshua as I just kept hitting in my Cores to get bigger hand and more fort. Capped the game with a Swanton Bomb for a final score of 3-1. Final results: 3-1 I must say I was quite surprised with the performance. Firstly, this is the first and only deck that ran the third reversal style and got into top 3 for both tourneys. I still feel that the Defense cards offered a wider range of coverage as compared to the third reversal style as I didn't play any of them throughout the 4 games. Only times they were useful was when I put them at the bottom for Filling In The Blanks or reversing from overturn. I also felt the current meta is slowly shifting towards a more antic friendly deck, as seen from the furry of Antics by the BWOs, and even some from Jerishow. Overall, it was all good and I'm definitely more than satisfied with the results! Thanks guys for the good games and looking forward to Hell In The Cell in December! Till next time, thanks for reading and have a nice day!
