King Booker wasn't the easiest superstar to play since his ability has certain restrictions and could lead to small handsize. But never to back down from a challenge, I believe this version of King Booker can solve those above problems. Although tourney results was terrible at 1pin and 3 losts, playtesting was pretty successful, even against the decks that I lost to in the tourney. No excuses though, mistake were made in the game but that's how we can all progress:) Here's the ability in case you are unsure and the deck list:
KING BOOKER
Starting Hand Size: 5 Superstar Value: 5
Superstar Ability: Successfully play a maneuver: you may put 1 non-Unique non-reversal card from your Ringside into your hand and then discard 1 card.
When packing non-Revolution cards: you may pack Booker T cards that are maneuvers or have "Sharmell" or "King" in the title.
<R> King Booker / 2nd Reversal Style / 4ever: No Mercy
Backlash (12)
Pre-match (6)
<R> Daniel Bryan Is In My Corner*
<R> Too Extreme For Your Own Good*
<R> Official Coronation*
<R> 4ever: No Mercy*
<R> Climbing The Ladder
<R> A New Plan
The reason for D.Bry IIMC will be explained later. With Coronation, you will most probably start with handsize. With this deck construction, it is quite certain Fort shouldn't be a problem. Play the first 4 cards in the order.
Mid-match (6)
<R> Slow The Match Down To A Crawl
<R> Maryse's French Finish
<R> Keep Your Eyes Open Or Its Game Over
<R> I Can Do Anything I Want
<R> Arm Drag
<R> All Hail King Booker
Basic Mid-match construction. Maryse is there as a last ditch effort. The deck basically allows you to retreive cards from ringside continuously through his ability and his card effects. Therefore It is possible to discard them for Maryse. All Hail would also help to ensure that you will have at least 12F if he can't reverse Momentum since your Scissors Hold will gain Momentum and Desperate Hold will grant you the other 6F. But this is late game and assuming your 0F did not get through in the first place.
Arsenal (60)
Maneuvers (23)
<R> Desperate Assault*
<R> Scissors Hold x 3*
<R> Elbow Smash x 3*
<R> Snap Bulldog x 3*
<R> Double Leg Lock Crab x 3*
<R> Short-Arm Rib Breaker x 3#
<R> Standing Dragon Sleeper x 3#
<R> Booker's Backhand Chop
<R> Booker's Thrust Kick
<R> Flying Headbutt Drop
<R> Bryan's Buzzsaw Kick*
Of the 23 maneuvers, 14 cards (those with *) can be retrieved from ringside to hand via their card effects. Of the remaining 9, 6 of them (#) can be retrieved with my ability and Flying Headbutt Drop can be used to put under your arsenal. Therefore, you will never run out of maneuvers to play. Bryan's Buzzsaw Kick is the key card for your ability. Instead of playing it as a maneuver, it is used to discard for my ability. Since it's effect allows me to retrieve it back from ringside as many times as possible, it is extremely useful. Decks that require discarding could consider packing D.Bry IIMC as well.
Antics (7)
<R> Maintain The Hold x 2
<R> Trap Opponent In The Corner x 2
<R> Nothing Left To Lose x 2
<R> Save Me From Myself
The interesting part of Booker's ability is that he can also retrieve Antics. Therefore, I chose to pack Maintain The Hold and Trap Opponent to lure out the Antic reversals for my Maryse's French Finish. But if they go through, opponent is gaurenteed to eat the aggression rule since it doesn't skip his turn, just restricting him from playing any cards. Since my maneuvers are constantly retrievable from ringside, I decided to pack Nothing Left To Lose. Shuffling 10cards could mean a whole lot of difference. And since I can retrieve my maneuvers, I usually retrieve either Short-Arm Rib Breaker or Standing Dragon Sleeper. Then either use Snap Bulldog or Double Leg Lock Crab to get it back in hand. If the Mean goes through, just discard what you retrieved and you will get 4 cards in your hand. Save Me From Myself is made for stall decks when they most of my maneuvers are already in ring. It will also help to activate Nothing Left To Lose since I would have lesser Fort after playing Save Me From Myself.
Reversals (33)
<R> Second Solution x 3
<R> Only One Solution x 2
<R> Try To Get Away x 2
<R> Out Maneuver x 2
<R> I Won't Be Beat Tonight x 2
<R> You Telegraphed It
<R> Inertia
<R> Why Don't You Kiss My Ass x 2
<R> Two For The Show...
<R> Head To Toe Defense x 3
<R> Centered Defense x 3
<R> Lateral Flank Defense x 3
<R> Jumping High Knee
<R> Booker's Scissors Kick
<R> Queen Sharmell Interferes
<R> Sooner Or Later, Everyone Taps
Overall, I was satisfied with the deck performance with all the playtesting. Not sure why it turned out badly for the tourney against the same decks I play against. Probably bad fengshui. If there is any way to improve, please feel free to comment:)
Till next time, thanks for reading!
