Yes! Yes! Yes! Good turnout today with 7 players! Round robin was our usual format since Revo games are generally shorter. Always great to see both old and new faces to the game, and hopefully everyone took away some experience from the games! I ran a Daniel Bryan deck focusing on Ring Psychology Neck and Chest. Initially went with RP: Back but decided on Neck since it was much easier to activate. Here’s my personal report:
Round 1: Daniel Bryan vs Brock Lesnar (Jun Yi)
When Jun Yi agreed to come down to take a look at our previous tournament, I knew right there that this person was worth going through the teaching and help, so this time round, I prepared a deck which he later gave his personal input on. Being new, it was indeed unfair to pit a fresh player against a seasoned one, but experience doesn’t come from nowhere, and the tourney (especially with good turnout of 7) is exactly the experience he needs.
As we tested our decks, he felt comfortable with it (since of 8 deck tests, he won 7) so we went along with it. Onward to the main match however, experience played a huge part. I was able to get my Scissors Hold (2 of them) in at the start since he couldn’t reverse cores from hand and Hold: Core did 0D. Activated my RP: Neck and ended my turn. It was really due to luck as I couldn’t reverse Cores in my current hand but he played Leg Sweep which was answered by a Jumping High Knee. I tried to go for a bigger move with Short Arm Rib Breaker but got reversed by Before This Gets Out Of Hand. As I still couldn’t reverse Cores, I had no choice but to fall to the deadly combo of Knee Breakers. 3 Knee Breakers and 15F later, I finally got my chance to get back in the game and went on with my Body Vise this time to activate my RP: Chest. Somehow he managed to reverse the first, but with War Machine, he had no choice but to let me chain in my Body Vises and another Chest maneuver to activate Chest. Knowing he had enough Fort for F5, I played cautiously and hit a well timed Transition Hold into a Hung Out To Dry for the victory.
It was a tight game overall, especially since I changed the deck into a new theme (from RP: Back to RP: Neck) and he did not know what neck and chest maneuvers could do. It was a really good fight with alot of back and forth, but Daniel somehow manages to take this one home.
1-0
Round 2: Daniel Bryan vs Brock Lesnar AGAIN (Tian Sheng)
If you thought facing 1 Brock Lesnar was tiring enough, wait till you fight 2, back to back. This Brock was obviously different because behind the deck was a well-oiled, experienced player. Had a bad starting hand so I took quite a beating from the start. But thanks to a Second Solution and a Transition Hold, I was able to hit mount a bit of offense. As usual, the underdog took a crapload of beating from Brock, and the details are just to brutal to know. Game ended with a well timed Powering Out into a Press Slam for the victory.
1-1
Round 3: Daniel Bryan vs Dolph Ziggler
This was main-event level gaming to me, and personally my favourite game out of all 6 played that day. The match started slow, with us being able to reverse each other’s cards. In fact, I was falling behind since he played the 0F core reversal hybrids and he had answers to my Scissors Holds. Luckily I had a 2nd Solution in hand, and also a Transition Hold, which got me to 4F. From there, I was lucky once again to hit a Jumping Knee to bring my fort up to 10. After some minor offence by both parties, we were stuck in a Fort stalemate where he had either the same, or 1 more fort than me. There was even a series of Defense cards being played in response to his maneuvers, followed by another series of reversals to reverse his Ziggler’s Sleeper. It even came to a point where he was able to hit me with a momentum-ed Superkick, but I had an Inertia in hand to stop it. If not, I would have lost. After a few more rounds of trading reversals, I was finally able to squeeze out all applicable reversals for and won the hard-fought match with my Buzzsaw Kick.
It was really good game, mirroring that of a really match between this 2 superstars IRL. I really pushed my Bryan to the limits as I didn’t activate both RPs in the end.
2-1
Round 4: Daniel Bryan vs Carlito
Personally this was quite a shock to me as I did pull off 2 consecutive victories against Carlito earlier in the day during deck testing. But luck just wasn’t on my side as I had the worst hand possible, with 6 maneuvers, 2 defense cards, 1 You Telegraphed it and 1 Outmaneuver. Carlito just went full assault on Bryan’s ass with Cores. Her hand was huge after Eat Spit and 4 or 5 cores later I finally reversed on overturn, only to get 2nd Solutioned on the next. I really didn’t have a chance against Carlito as she just went for Mean after Mean, and Bryan had no choice but to eat the pin after a Cool Discus Clothesline, with only 6F in my ring from Desperate Assault.
2-2
Round 5: Daniel Bryan vs Jack Swagger
Did some playtesting against Jack a few weeks ago and I roughly knew the direction of the deck. Still, I had a super bad and ended up eating both Space Mountain Punch and Soaring Big Boot, followed by Working on the Knee, all in turn 1. However, Jack just couldn’t keep up with Necks and I soon activated both RPs. Knowing this was a long game and no Ruckus was in play, I went semi-defensive by hitting my chest moves to recover applicable reversals. Jack’s crucial mistake was the higher damage cores that he packed, allowing me to reverse on overturn most of the time. Match ended soon with a Buzzsaw Kick.
3-2
Round 6: Daniel Bryan vs Kofi Kingston
Once again, this wasn’t a really good match up because Daniel just got hold of the deck today so he might not have known how to use it to its potential. I had an extremely good hand, being able to control much of the early game and stopping much progress from Kofi. I also had the right reversals to either stop him from hand or from overturn. There was some minor offense like Flying Kicks and Flying Topes but the game soon ended with a Transition Hold and Hung Out To Dry.
Final score: 4-2
