INTRODUCTION
Hi there and welcome to yet another Revo article. This week’s article would revolve around Extremists and its benefits. Unlike the previous few articles where we zoom in into specific cards or tactics, this article would just be a brief overview of all the cards that Extremists can benefit from and probably touch on some of them. I will update this article accordingly when VR5 comes out, but for now, here are some or most of the benefits that I know.
Unlike Non-Extremist superstars, Extremists only have 5 superstar specific cards excluding their face card compared to non-Extremists who have 10 (excluding face card). Some might see this as a disadvantage due to the lack of support cards. I, too, had the same feel so I actually raised this issue up to the creators, and they brought up a good point. Although Extremists do not have as many superstar support cards as the rest, what they lack in, they gain in the support of deck building cards. Here’s a list of cards that grant advantage when played by Extremists.
Follow-ups:
Non-Follow-ups
As you can see, Extremists get a lot of support from Extreme Maneuvers. The effects granted are also difficult to replicate for non-Extremist superstars. Although not all Extremists need to use Extremes, some of the effects granted cannot be ignored. In fact, they could be used to bridge your Fort or when used in masses, they could deal serious disruption. A good example of easy Fort bridging would be the use of Homicidal Lunge to get you to 5F, and a Ring Step (5F for Extremists) will bring you to 14F and from there, you are open to hitting Colossal Maneuvers. A good example of spamming a single card would be Matt Striker playing Flying Clothesline (opponent discards 1). With Flying Clothesline, Striker will have an easier time getting rid of cards from opponent’s hand. With the help of Climbing the Ladder (Almost no way you can’t play this since you have 0SSV), you will be able to draw 2 every time you play a Flying Clothesline, use it to discard 1 card from your opponent’s hand, and use your ability to discard another.
Interesting Twist....
Here’s where the article gets interesting. We all know that the above benefits only Extremists, and we also know that The New Breed could turn you into an Extremist but not without a cost of 1 random discard from hand per turn from Too Extreme For Your Own Good (TEFYOG). However, there are some non-Extremist superstars that are able to mitigate, or turn this disadvantage around. The argument here is that with the combination of an Extremist benefit, along with their original ability, the advantage would override the disadvantage of having to discard 1 random card per turn.
Here are some ideas that I came up with that you might want to try out! I’m not touching on Jeff Hardy (storyline) or Kurt Angle since they both have support cards that can turn them Extremist.
1. Kofi Kingston
Kofi has the easiest time pulling this off. With your Destiny Is Mine, you can get to pick up 1 non-unique card from Ringside and recover 1 card every time you successfully play a Follow-up Maneuver. Couple this with Leaping Neck Snaps (LNS) (draw 2) and Inverted Body Blocks (IBB) (shuffle 3) while ignoring the Follow-up requirement with your ability, you can see how the random discard would not affect you as much.
An example of how it would play out would be this:
Kofi randomly discards for TEFYOG (-1), draws 1 for draw segment (+1), discards 1 for ability (-1), plays LNS successfully, draws 2 for Climbing The Ladder (+2), draws another 2 for LNS (+2), put 1 non-unique card from Ringside to hand (+1), and lastly recover 1 card. In total, you would have gained an additional 4 cards in your hand.
Once your hand balloons up, switch it up to IBB and you can start recovering those reversals into your arsenal.
2. Jeff Hardy (Non-Storyline)
Jeff Hardy without storyline will have very similar tactic to Kofi Kingston, but less effective since he does not get the protection from ability. However, he does not need to discard for his ability, which means that instead of focusing on drawing back your hand, you can consider rocking some Flying Neck Breakers for a good 6F14D and spam more Colossal Extremes. This is more of a straight-forward tactic which might require more thought into it.
3. Edge (Storyline)
Contrary to most Revo decks, Edge is one of those superstars that benefit from a smaller hand. Therefore, my suggestion is that he can run the retrievable Maneuvers like Elbow Smash or Snap Bulldogs, and use his ability to pick up the Follow-up Maneuvers from Ringside. Instead of worrying about his hand size, he can just focus on recovering key reversals back to his arsenal. A good tactic would be to run RP:Chest and IBBs. The cards that you recover under your arsenal would be shuffled when IBB’s effect takes place. With TEFYOG, it would actually be benefiting you by maintaining a small handsize.
CONCLUSION
CONCLUSION
With that, we have come to the end of another Revo article. I hope that these articles could give you an alternate view to playing as a whole, and that there are many opportunities out there to capitalise on if you look hard enough. They might not always be perfect, but you will definitely enjoy playing it if you pull them off successfully. As usual, feel free to leave any comments or feedback if any, and till next week,
Thanks for reading and have a nice day!
