INTRODUCTION
Welcome to yet another Revo article. This week we are looking at RP:Back. Strong effect in my opinion, since it has something to do with hand disruption, provided your opponent activates it. Similar to the previous article on RP:Neck, I will give the list of cards first, followed by a brief run through of the Back Maneuvers before giving some superstar recommendations. Do take note that due to exam dates and report deadlines, I won’t be posting any new articles until first week of May. I seek your kind understanding! But let’s get ‘Back’ to this article!
LIST OF BACK CARDS
BRIEF RUN-THROUGH
It is obvious by now that most Back Maneuvers are Throws, of which a majority of them are Cores, while the Means and Colossals are a spread among Holds and Extremes. With regards to Core, just take note that the entire Reversal Hybrid 0Fs are Back, so right off the bat, Ric Flair with his Storyline will have no problem activating RP:Back. Nothing fanciful about Cores in general. Only some cards like Snap Mare and Abdominal Stretch are worth mentioning. Apart from that, if you are looking to fulfil the requirements of your RP:Back, then Back Rake, Flung Over The Ropes and Snap Slam are good cards to pack since they allow you to search. Atomic Drop can also be used in Antic decks to retrieve Antics from Ringside when needed.
Under the Mean section, the first card to highlight will probably be Ring Steps. This card is good, both for Extremists and Non-Extremists ‘cause the lesser the damage, the harder it is for the Maneuver to be reversed on overturn. Moreover, Ring Steps will still remain as a Mean even if the Damage goes below 8. The general direction of the Means are just mainly to deal damage. There are cards like Power Slam and Back Breaker where you can pick up cards. There are also cards like Boston Crab and Fall-away Suplex to pack in your Backlash in case you run out of Maneuvers in hand.
Colossals sadly don’t have much to offer as well since there isn’t much synergy on their own. Certain things to take note of include Suicide Dive. If you are an Extremist, this card would be 10F17D. Find a way to hit this every turn and your opponent will go suicide himself. Same goes to Hurricanrana at 11F19D if you are Extremist. Press Slam is like the upgraded version of Power Slam. Samoan Drop is an interesting card as it allows you to ‘upgrade’ your hand. It is also the only non-Umaga card that has ‘Samoa’ in it. One last interesting card to take note of is Tiger Bomb. Its effect, short and sweet, is sometimes very devastating, especially if your opponent’s deck revolves around its ability to work.
Here are my top choices for playing RP:Back, either due to the fact that they have discarding effects, or their abilities suit ‘Back’.
1. Batista (Non-storyline)
Batista is made to run Throws and hand disruption cards. His greatest tool: Snap Mare. There are different ways of optimising his ability but the best would be to run Harcore Hell. With Snap Slams it will ensure that his ability will be in effect every turn. With Hardcore Hell’s protection and the low damage of those Cores, your ability will go off most of the time. When he is down to a small hand, drop some heavy Throws like Tiger Bomb or Press Slams to seal the deal. With reference to my previous articles to the 3rd reversal style, Batista can also take advantage of the ‘remove #D from ring’ effect to reuse his maneuvers.
2. Mark Henry
His name appeared once before in the article about RP:Arm, but here’s another form of Mark Henry that goes mainly Back. Inspiration from Eugene and here’s his DECK LIST. The idea of the deck is hand disruption, explaining why Eugene went with I Brought Back-Up, Just In Case for ‘Cade & Murdoch’. ‘Hacksaw’ is also a good way of Ring disruption or picking up key maneuvers. An addition to the deck could be It All Led To This which will grant a late game Colossal Momentum, +10D, and + whatever damage it has accumulated from Hall Of Pain. Very sound tactic.
3. Kurt Angle
Kurt Angle’s hand disruption ability goes hand in hand with RP:Back’s effect. Moreover, Extreme Backs hurt quite a bit too. Coupled with some Snap Mares and Thrown Off The Stage, your opponent wouldn’t have the hand to fight back. Angle’s Gold Medal also helps him a lot with picking up the correct Back Maneuvers to fit correct situations. Therefore my suggestion is to pack an array of Maneuvers with effects that cover everything like drawing, recovering, discarding etc etc. Therefore it will give you something to fall back to.
4. Matt Striker
This is a bit stretched, but the gist is hand disruption. Since RP:Back heavily disrupts his hand, having an ability to further inflict more damage is good. Therefore Matt Striker earned his spot here. In order to fuel his hand, his selection of Maneuvers and support cards should include drawing effects such as running Climbing The Ladder. Cards like Atomic Drop, Power Slam and Back Breaker are also cards that can be used to pump up the handsize. And since Matt Striker is an Extremist, I guess there is no harm throwing in a few Suicide Dives or Hurricanranas too!
CONCLUSION
Unlike the previous few targets, Back does not generally have a single direction that you can focus on. Therefore, it is up to you to modify your decks to fit those Back cards in. Since the cards are general, certain cards will definitely fit into certain tactics. Jack Swagger can take advantage of All-American American to play more Mid-match Backs, while Santino can run Climbing The Ladder, Snatch and Lift and Sidewalk Slams. As usual, we have come to the end of a short article. Do leave your feedback or comments at the comments section below and we will look into them in the future!
Till next time, thanks for reading and have a nice day!
