INTRODUCTION
Welcome to another Revo article! Today’s article would be revolving around Colossals and some supports that they have over the past 4 expansions. Colossals as whole aren’t too difficult to reverse during the late game as opponents usually pack the ‘Defense’ cards or I Won’t Be Beat Tonight, both at 7F, especially if your opponent is able to constantly recur appropriate reversals. Before that, only Slow The Match Down To A Crawl is able to temporarily reverse it for 1 turn as the Colossal returns to the hand instead of ringside. Therefore, Colossals are best played early game or if they gain momentum. Other than that, it often requires the right amount of luck and experience to pull them off. Contrary to what you might assume, most matches usually don’t end with Colossals although they do pack a hell lot of a punch.
In terms of categorizing, I will be grouping them according to how ‘Defense’ cards reverse. Therefore, it would be Head and Leg, Arm and Back, Neck and Chest. Thus far, 100% of the decks in tourneys consists of ‘Defense’ cards due to their wide coverage. Therefore, I feel it is only apt that these Colossals are categorized in the same way. Superstar and tactic recommendations will be given if there are any.
No Q&A this week so we shall go straight into the main subject!
SUPPORT
The above 2 cards interact with Colossals as a whole. My Way Or The Highway helps to get your Colossals from your ringside to your hand. This is more useful if your deck runs on the 1st reversal style since that would increase the chances of you having more Cores in your hand. Torrie! Torrie! Torrie! helps to reduce high Fort cost of your Colossals. If Batista would run 2 of that and his storyline, his Colossals would be -10F, fitting into the Fort curve that a Big Boot or Chicken Wing will give you. Although not pictured, Climbing The Ladder does give a draw 1 for every Colossal that is successfully played.
HEAD / LEG
Although cards in this category usually do not interact much with each other, there is a wide range of selection to choose from. Of which, Rapid-Fire Punch outshines the rest as it allows its user to retrieve 2 other Head targets from his ring to hand. There are no other cards in the game as of this writing that can do that. Therefore, if you are able to satisfy Superkick’s Momentum effect, Rapid-Fire Punch could be used to retrieve Superkick to be played again. In terms of Leg, RP:Leg is the best tactic out there. Since there is a –F bonus from RP:Leg, it is possible to hit Leg Colossals on the first turn. Based on the number of superstar specifics with Head and Leg, Triple H has 3 Heads, Balls Mahoney has 3 Heads, Jericho has 3 Heads, Rated RKO has 3 Heads, RVD has 3 Heads, Ric Flair has 3 Heads and 1 Leg, William Regal has 3 Heads and 1 Leg. Of which, Ric Flair stands to gain the most from this category of Colossals since he is able to retrieve the Legs, and also Rapid-Fire Punches.
That said, many other decks can stand to gain from running the above maneuvers, be based on the target, type or effect. Cards like Steel Chain Shot fits well into discarding themes while Leg Lock words extremely well for Antic decks or if you just intend to pick up your 'Defense' cards.
CHEST / NECK
Necks have by far the most synergy when played together. Cards like Running Clothesline , 360-Degree Clothesline and Face Driver benefits from the number of Necks in your ring. There are also enough cards to constantly retrieve cards from your ringside like DDT, STF and Clothesline into either your hand or shuffle them back. Although there is only 1 Chest Colossal, its effect is very strong in terms of reducing your opponent’s hand. A good superstar that can take advantage of that is Sabu. With his ability to reduce opponent’s hand and the number of Assaults in this category, PLUS a discount on the Fort for Drive Opponent, his opponent will definitely be reduced to 0 hand. Based solely on targets, Undertaker has 3 Necks, Dolph Ziggler has 3 Necks, Christian has 3 Chests and Mark Henry has 3 Chests. Although this does not necessarily mean they will benefit the most from playing all these since they have their own tactics, you can probably work around this small link and try to work it to your favor.
BACK / ARM
While RP:Back is difficult to activate, RP:Arm is very lethal and Super Hold’s damage could be pumped up really really high. That aside, Samoan Drop is an extremely good card for Sheamus or superstars that have the potential to have big handsizes. If Sheamus were to run RP: Throw, he would be able to draw 1 card for every Throw you successfully play and forcing your opponent to overturn 1 every time you draw. With all that drawing, your hand will be very huge. This is where Samoan Drop comes into play, being a Throw itself, it will activate RP:Throw. That aside, Samoan Drop allows you to put your hand at the bottom of your arsenal and draw UP TO the same amount. Therefore, you will have less chances of counting-out yourself from all the drawing. Other superstars that could take advantage of this category would be Brock Lesnar since his ability allows him to draw 1 card for every successful Throw and Hold and majority of the Back and Arm Colossals are either. Based purely on targets, Batista has 3 Backs, Big Show has 3 Backs. Mark Henry also has cards that interacts with Back.
CONCLUSION
Although the Colossals are categorized in the above manner, it is always possible that there will be more interaction between packing more targets. The idea of focusing on 1 or 2 targets is very common. However, you can always pack a few maneuvers out of those targets that you usually pack to throw your opponent off. This is extremely useful if he happens to discard reversals which he thought would have been ‘useless’ against you. All in all, Colossals usually fit into a bigger picture and usually not the main focus, unless of cause you are play Storyline Batista or Test who can reduce their Colossal Fort. With that we have come to the end of another Revo article. Feel free to leave any comments or queries in the comments section below and we will look into them in the next article!
Till then, thanks for reading and have a nice day!
